Shiva Destroys Tripura

After the defeat of the demon Tarakasura, his three sons—Tarakaksha, Kamalaksha, and Vidyunmali—performed intense penance to Lord Brahma. They requested immortality, but Brahma refused, granting them instead three magnificent flying cities: one of gold in heaven, one of silver in the sky, and one of iron on earth. These cities, known as Tripura, could only be destroyed by a single arrow when they aligned perfectly, an event occurring once every thousand years. Emboldened by their near-invincibility, the demons began to terrorize the gods and sages. The gods sought help from Lord Shiva, the Destroyer. A grand chariot was forged from the elements of the universe: the Earth became the chariot, the Sun and Moon its wheels, and the Vedas its horses. When the three cities finally aligned in the sky, Shiva drew his mighty bow. With a single, divine arrow, he pierced all three cities simultaneously, reducing them to ashes and liberating the universe from the demons' tyranny.
