Story Summary
Explore the Legend of the Lake Sword, where King Lê Lợi uses a magical blade from a Golden Turtle to free Vietnam, eventually returning it to Hoàn Kiếm Lake.
During the 15th-century Ming occupation of Vietnam, the Golden Turtle God decided to lend a divine sword to the rebel leader Lê Lợi. A fisherman named Lê Thận first discovered the blade in his net, and later, Lê Lợi found a glowing hilt engraved with 'Heaven's Will' in a banyan tree. When the two pieces were joined, they formed a weapon of immense power. With the divine blade in hand, Lê Lợi led his people through years of struggle, eventually driving out the invaders and ascending the throne. A year after the victory, while the King was boating on Lục Thủy Lake, a giant golden turtle emerged from the emerald waters. The sword at the King's waist began to vibrate. The turtle spoke, explaining that the Dragon King had lent the sword to defeat the enemy, but now that peace had returned, it must be restored to the depths. Lê Lợi unsheathed the blade and tossed it toward the turtle, who caught it in its mouth and vanished. To honor this event, the King renamed the waters Hoàn Kiếm Lake, the Lake of the Restored Sword.
