The Return of Baldur

After the fires of Surtur had consumed the world and the Great Winter had frozen the remains, a new earth began to rise from the cold, deep sea. The old gods were gone, fallen in the final battle of Ragnarok, but the prophecy of the Völva was not yet complete. From the dark, misty realm of Hel, where he had been trapped since the trickery of Loki, the shining god Baldur finally emerged. He did not come alone; at his side walked his brother Hodur, the blind god who had unwittingly slain him. In this new world, all grievances were forgotten. They traveled to the plain of Idavoll, where the great halls of Asgard once stood. There, they met the sons of Odin and Thor who had survived the cataclysm. Finding the golden game-pieces of the old gods in the lush green grass, they began to rebuild. Baldur, the god of light and purity, took his place as a leader of this peaceful new era, signaling that while the old world had perished in blood and flame, the new world would be defined by reconciliation and everlasting light.
