Indra and Vritra

In the ancient age of the Rigveda, the world suffered under a catastrophic drought. The monstrous serpent-demon Vritra, created by the craftsman Twashta to avenge his son, had swallowed the primordial waters of the universe and coiled himself around the world's mountains. As rivers vanished and life withered, the Devas, led by Indra, faced a foe they could not pierce. Seeking a solution, they approached the supreme deity, who revealed that only a weapon forged from the bones of a truly selfless soul could slay the demon. They turned to Sage Dadhichi, who willingly gave up his life so his diamond-hard bones could be used. From these remains, the divine architect fashioned the Vajra, the thunderbolt. Mounted on his white elephant Airavata, Indra engaged Vritra in a cosmic battle. With a roar that shook the heavens, Indra hurled the Vajra, shattering the serpent's hold. As Vritra fell, the captive waters burst forth like lowing cows, rushing back to the valleys and restoring life and Dharma to the parched Earth.

The moral
True power is born from selfless sacrifice, and cosmic order can only be restored when individual ego is set aside for the greater good.
