Using Mount Mandara as a churning rod and the serpent Vasuki as a rope, the two sides pulled back and forth. As the ocean yielded its treasures, a divine vision appeared: Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the frothing waves, seated upon a fully bloomed lotus. She radiated grace, beauty, and prosperity, holding a lotus in her hand. The sages chanted hymns, and celestial elephants showered her with holy water. While both gods and demons desired her favor, Lakshmi looked upon them all and chose Lord Vishnu as her eternal consort, placing a garland around his neck, for he alone possessed the qualities of steadfastness and virtue. Her emergence restored auspiciousness and fortune to the three worlds.
