A fox crept round the hen house in the moonlight, hunting for a way in. High on the top perch, far out of his reach, sat a rooster.
"Good news, good news!" cried the fox. "King Lion has made peace! No beast may hurt a bird ever again. We shall all live together like brothers."
"Why, that is good news," said the rooster. "And here comes someone we can share it with." He stretched out his neck and stared far off down the lane.
"What do you see?" said the fox.
"It is only my master's dog, coming this way." The fox began to turn around. "What, going so soon?" said the rooster. "Won't you stay and share the good news with him?"
"I would love to," said the fox, walking a little faster, "but I am afraid he may not have heard of King Lion's law."
A trickster can be tricked too.
