Lesson flow
Opening hook
Ask students to share a time when they witnessed someone boasting about their kindness. What did they say? How did it make them feel? This will set the stage for discussing the difference between words and actions.
Story exploration
Read "The Bear and the Fox" aloud to the class. After reading, engage students in a brief discussion about their initial thoughts on the story. What stood out to them?
Analysis exercises
Divide students into small groups and assign them to analyze the Bear's and Fox's characteristics. Have them discuss how each character represents different aspects of kindness. Each group will then share their insights with the class.
Application/reflection
Have students write a short paragraph reflecting on the moral of the story. Encourage them to relate it to their own lives, considering how they can show kindness through their actions rather than just words.
Assessment strategy
Conduct a quick exit ticket where students write down one way they can demonstrate true kindness in their daily lives.
