Svarog the Sky God

Slavic Mythology

Save
Svarog the Sky God

In the beginning, before the world took shape, there was only darkness and the celestial smith, Svarog. Floating in the primordial void, Svarog forged the universe upon his divine anvil. With every strike of his heavy hammer, white-hot sparks flew into the emptiness, becoming the sun, the moon, and the infinite stars. He stretched the blue canopy of the sky across the heavens, separating the light from the deep earth. To ensure the world would thrive, Svarog gifted humanity the secret of fire and the knowledge of the forge, teaching them to craft tools from the earth's bones. Having established the laws of the universe and the sacred bond of marriage, the Great Smith retired to the highest heaven. There, he remains the silent watcher, passing his creative fire to his sons, Dazhbog and Svarozhich, while the world he hammered into existence continues to spin in the cosmic forge.

The moral
True creation requires both the vision to see what is possible and the diligent labor to forge it into reality.
